June 17, 2008: INTERVIEW With GARRON!
SYP - Stacy and Sherri seem to get asked to do backing vocals quite a bit...who would the band want to do backing vocals for an EISLEY song? And beyond that, who would they enjoy collaborating with?
Garron - I do a lot of background vocals for 50 CENT. JK…I don’t really have an answer for this question.
SYP - What music do Weston/Garron listen to, and are influenced by?
Garron - I listen to a lot of things, and some of them I would list as one of my “influences”, but really a lot of the things that I think influence me don’t really show through in my bass playing. But I have always been influenced a lot by the Beatles. But I also listen to a band called Kent (their album “Hagnesta Hill” is one of my top 5 favorite albums ever I think), Mew, Iron & Wine, Ben Folds, Avril (her first album), and Jeremy Enigk. Things like that…
SYP - Would Christie ever do any guest vocals on an Eisley song? Or do you think it's better to let her do her own thing and grow as a solo artist?
Garron - I don’t know, ask Christie.
SYP - Will Chauntelle have a bigger role vocally and/or in the writing process for songs being written now and in the future? Do you want her to?
Garron - Yeah dood.
SYP - Have you seen a change in how Chauntelle carries herself on stage and/or off? Have people encouraging her singing so enthusiastically changed her at all? What are your thoughts on all that?
Garron - I think Chauntelle’s pretty cool.
SYP - Can you describe your songwriting process(es)?
Garron - I hear the song, I'm like “what would be a cool part for this song”, and I play it.
SYP - What is one question you get asked a lot in interviews that you're sick of answering?
Garron - I get really tired of the “so… you guy all family, huh?”… My general thought when we get this in almost every interview is “C’mon! If that’s all you wanted to know you shoulda just gone to wiki-freakin-pedia man!” Haha. And also the “So where did you guys get your name?”, or “so who’s the Star Wars fan here?” questions. But I suppose some people still don’t know those things.
SYP - Do any of you play video games?
Garron - Not really. We never really had video games when we were little. But not too long ago we got a Wii. I mostly just play guitar hero though, and I kinda suck at it.
SYP - What are your favorite superhero movies?
Garron - Spider-man and Batman. Handsdown. I’ve always wanted to be spider man, and the new Batman movies have really got me into Batman again. I was a HUGE Batman fan when I was little (I had the batman pajamas, the shirts, I even had my parents paint the batman logo on my bike), but after I saw the Val Kilmer Batman movie it kinda killed it for me. Thanks Christian Bale for making Batman awesome again! Haha.
SYP - Favorite movies in general?
Garron - Hmm… I always have a hard time thinking of my actual favorite movies. I like too many of them. Basically anything with Mark Wahlburg.
SYP - Do you really dislike Robert Downey Jr.?
Garron - Yeah, basically. At least his acting anyways.
SYP - Is it hard being so cool?
Garron - Haha, not really.
SYP - How do you feel about being an emerging gay icon?
Garron - Hahah… I read some of that topic. I was just laughing the whole time. People come up with some pretty funny stuff.
SYP - Your fans like to bring you things when you're on tour, what are your favorite things to get? Or, what is something you've haven't gotten but would like to.
Garron - We don’t really get things that terribly often. But we get gift cards to Starbucks sometimes, and things like that. Home-baked things are nice, but you never know what they did to it. A home-made cake could be laced with TNT. Oh, and I like those Lifesaver “Fruit-splosions”, those things are delicious.
SYP - What does a normal day off-tour consist of for you guys?
Garron - Often I work on school stuff more off of tour. But, since it summer now, I just hang out. Occasionally hang out with people, but I don’t really have that many friends. Just my girlfriend, so I hang out with her.
SYP - If a fan comes up to you asking if you remember them, and you don't, what do you say (be honest!)?
Garron - Well, because of my remarkably good memory, I usually do remember them if they did anything more than just asked me to sign something. It depends though, I think I’ve told someone I remember them before when I didn’t really. But I’ve also told them that I really don’t remember them. So it depends on how comfortable I'm feeling.
SYP - Do Weston and Garron ever feel left out since the girls seem to get more attention sometimes?
Garron - No way. I’m definitely not an attention hog. I like being not noticed.
SYP - Did you enjoy having Madison on your with you on this last tour?
Garron - NO!... just kidding. Of course I did. How would I be able to say I didn’t enjoy having her on tour?
SYP - What band have you enjoyed touring with most? Would you ever say who you disliked least?
Garron - I think that I most enjoyed touring with MuteMath last fall. We became very good friends with most of those guys, and their crew. So it was just a very fun tour. It was more like a bunch of friends hanging out all around the country than touring actually. And no, I probably wouldn’t say who I enjoyed touring with the least, that would just be rude.
SYP - How have invasive "fans" who hack your e-mail and steal your pictures, messages and files affected you? Garron, have you even had to deal with that? Or has it just been the other four? Or was just the girls? I guess no one cares about you boys? (jk)
Garron - Hah, no one has hacked into my email yet. I don’t know if its cause no one cares about me or because I have ridiculously good passwords. But, they haven’t managed to get in yet. Hopefully they don’t, but I don’t really have anything awesome in my email anyways. I rarely use it.
SYP - To help clear up all the confusion: What's the story about the so-called "baby" demos? Not necessarily about how they were stolen, but about what they are? How did it even get the name "The Baby"? What might you like people to think about if they listen to them? Do you mind that people are sharing it, or would you rather them not?
Garron - I don’t know exactly what went down with those. I believe they were called “The Baby” because that was the name of the girl’s hard-drive at the time, so when garageband puts them in iTunes, it labels it by the hard-drive name. But I’m sure one of the girls could answer this better.
SYP - This is sort of a cliché but...any last words for us, SYP. com, the fans and such?
Garron - WHAT UP? THANKS FOR KEEPIN' IT REAL.
